Opinion on Cam choice?

Opinion on Cam choice? - 01/08/15 10:05 PM

I am putting together a 2nd generation HEMI and would like an opinion on the cam I have. This is a 484 ci, ported Stage V heads from Tim Banning, stock 2 plane intake and stock carbs. TTI headers. Comp Cams: Solid Roller, Duration @ .050 236/243, Lift, .603/.552 at valve. Lobe centerline, 113 degrees.

I'm not too familiar with solid rollers. Will this be streetable? Will it have a decent idle? Enough vacuum for power brakes? I got this cam and lifter set with a bunch of other parts purchased. Probably over $1,000 bought new, so would hate to waste it.

That cam will be very streetable with 484 cubes, it should have a little gallop to the idle but nothing crazy.

With a little tuning, it should be OK with PB. It will probably want 17-20 degrees initial advance. That and idle mixture set close and they should work.

I have a Comp solid roller with 242/248@ .050 and .570" lift 110 lobe center in a 10.2:1 470" wedge. Idles at 900rpm with 12" vacuum. think you'll be fine

The 426 hemi motors don't really like wide lobe seperation angles on the street, if you decide to use it make sure and advance the intake lobe so it is installed between 105 to 108 ATDC at max lift Closer lobe centers, 110 LSA,with the same lift and duration at .050 would make it better in my opinion
