They all have the firewall reinforcement plate behind the master cylinder. Auto and 4sp alike.

Rust is a weird thing. The heavy gauge stuff looks ultra-crusty with deep pits and corrosion; but the sheetmetal looks to be in decent shape. It's almost like it chose to go after the meatier stuff first. Science.

I think that some got it regardless of transmission. I've converted several auto trans. cars to 4 spds. and only had to hang the clutch pedal and swap the brake pedal.

Maybe they realized later in production that they could accomplish the same thing with one part #. Or, because the manual trans was standard in the B-body, they had more of them laying around.
This is all assuming that the manual trans assembly is all one piece with two extra bolts in the firewall, of course. I'm not familiar with the B-body assemblies.

I haven't seen them on auto cars for 68 and 69. I would think that the factory wouldn't use the part unless needed. If they could save a few cents by not having that bracket there, they would. Most likely a mistake. Its hard to tell, but is the a bracket welded to the top of the frame rail down under the master cylinder?

I will look at mine later but I'm thinking it doesn't have that bracket on it

I think it was just an assembly line goof up.

I went and checked mine late build 70 RoadRunner and it does not have that bracket on it. It does have the dimples in the firewall where it goes.

mine was a late Jan. build and does not have it just the dipples. However, I do have the part for a column shift even though it's a factory console shift so I guess you never know what might be added or not.
