Fresh air induction/air grabber/ramcharger - 12/05/14 04:59 PM

Need some help here on getting my data straight. If you can let me know if the following is true or not I would appreciate it.

1. Before 1968 on Plymouth and Dodge B-bodies the hood scoops were just for looks and there wasn't any fresh air induction. This is just normal production cars not light weights, max wedge etc.
2. In 1968 and 1969 the air grabber for Plymouth and the ramcharger for Dodge were both black.
3. In 1969 1/2 the fresh air fiberglass hood came only on A12 cars.
4. In 1970 The Plymouth air grabber became vacume operated changed air boxes and was black and the Dodge ramcharger became orange and remained cable operated.
5. In 1968 the breather for the 4 bbl was large simular to the 1969 1/2 six pack breather.
6. In 1969 the four barrel breather had a large base but a small round filter and lid.
7. In 1970 the four barrel breather remained the same and the six pack breather was used with an addition of a front air dam?

What breathers and when was the air dam added?

Did the Hemi breather always have the air dam from 1968 - 1970?

Did the 66-67 Hemis use the chrome round breather?

Thanks

69 was the first year for the air grabber and Ramcharger fresh air setups.
You are correct on the 69.5 cars and the fiberglass hood setup.
69 had the large oval lid for single four barrel applications (the only year).
The air dam was on non-fresh air multi-carb setups (70-71, I believe). As far as I know 69 hemis without fresh air still had the round chrome air cleaner.

You did OK but;

No ramcharger in '68

'70 440-6 with Ramcharger (hemi used same lid)

'70 440-6 without N96 (this is the only application for the air dam air cleaner as all hemis had the N96 standard)

So Jim pretty much had it nailed other than AFAIK, all '69 Hemi B bodies had N96 standard (except the Charger, of course).

Only other note; some early 1970 B bodies are said to have used the black Ramcharger duct....though all survivors I've seen had the orange.

So let's try this again.

1. Before 1969 on Plymouth and Dodge B-bodies the hood scoops were just for looks and there wasn't any fresh air induction. This is just normal production cars not light weights, max wedge etc.
2. In 1969 the air grabber for Plymouth and the ramcharger for Dodge were both black.
3. In 1969 1/2 the fresh air fiberglass hood came only on A12 cars.
4. In 1970 The Plymouth air grabber became vacume operated changed air boxes and was black and the Dodge ramcharger became orange and remained cable operated.
5. In 1969 the breather for the 4 bbl was large simular to the 1969 1/2 six pack breather.
6. In 1970 the four barrel breather had a large base but a small round filter and lid.
7. In 1970 larger breather was used on the six packs.
8. The air dam is only on 1970 six pack cars with out fresh air.
9. Beginning in 1969 all Hemi's had fresh air induction.

(except for weird Ma Mopar never say never exceptions that are rare and are almost never documented )

Correct?

2. In 1969 the air grabber for Plymouth and the ramcharger for Coronet were both black.

3. In 1969 1/2 the fresh air fiberglass hood came only on A12 cars.

4. In 1970 The Plymouth air grabber became vacuum operated changed air boxes and was black and the Coronet ramcharger became orange and remained cable operated.

5. In 1969 the AIR GRABBER/RAMCHARGER breather LID for the 4bbl & HEMI was the same large OVAL similar to the 1969 1/2 six pack breather LID (bases are obviously different).

6. In 1970 the N96 four barrel breather had a large OVAL base but a small round filter and lid.

7. In 1970 A NEW larger breather LID w/o "RAIN GUTTER" was used on the six pack & HEMIS USED THE SAME LID FROM '69.

8. The air dam is only on 1970 six pack & HEMI cars with out fresh air OR CALIFORNIA "NOISE REDUCTION" N97.

9. Beginning in 1969 all Hemis (EXCEPT '69-'70 non-CHARGER or WING CAR) had fresh air induction.

then there's the '71-'72 N96 b-body cars

Orange '69-'71 HEMI w/N96 oval lid is the same as '69 b-body w/N96.
Orange '69-1/2 440+6 (A12) oval lid is the same as '70 340+6 (A53)
Orange '70-'72 440+6 oval lid is the same

Basically except the 69.5 A12 breather looks similar but the base is quite different (like Dan said);

Hey DPelletier, do you remember where you got that picture of the six bbl road runner engine?
The reason I ask is because that is the engine compartment of my 69 1/2 road runner that I showed at the Nats in the O.E level back in 1993. It looks like the same shot that Tom Shaw took and was in the 1994 edition of Mopar Muscle.
I would love to know man.
