72 Dart Rear Glass into 67 Dart - 11/24/14 12:15 AM
I got a rear glass from a 72 Dart donor and attempted to install it into my 67 Dart.
It basically falls through the opening. It appears to be at least 1/2" too short.
I had purchased the butyl tape sealant and was ready to go but discovered this when I dry fit the glass. I guess I should have done that before I purchased the sealant. At least I had not laid down the butyl yet. It appears the glass was installed with butyl tape in the donor. I spent an hour cleaning sealant off the outer 1/2" of the glass mostly on the inside.
Are 67 and 72 Dart rear glass openings different sizes or am I missing something? Would it work if I used a gasket instead of buytl?

Are the two cars 4dr sedans or 2 dr hts . if you have a 2 dr ht and the donor is a 4 dr ........ no fit. Both cars have to be same model .

You have to use gasket , both cars are designed for the rubber seal . I can see now why its 1/2 inch too short. Glass will basically fall through.

That is strange, because the glass that was in the 67, which I really wish I had not broken, was installed with buytl tape. No gasket. 1/2" overlap on the pinch weld all the way around.

Anybody know if the gasket can be purchased locally or do I have to go online?
I have to get this thing buttoned up in a week. Loading it on a trailer and hauling it through 5 states.

For what it's worth, I have heard (but never tried) that soaking those seals in vinegar makes them soft and pliable like new.

If I can get hold of a gasket, I have aninstall question.
Because of the pointy corners and pinch weld around the entire opening, I assume it installs a little differently than the front windshield.
Would one try to install one or both lower corners and pull the rope toward the bottom center and then up the sides and across top or just like a rectangular one, pull from the bottom center, out and around the sides to the top center.
