Factory sometimes left the door jams with primer ? - 11/04/14 05:16 AM

I have LA built 1970 EW1 alpine white Challenger R/T 383 that the door jams and front inside parts of the doors have factory gray/green paint, or could it be that at the last minute color was changed. The car was built in October of 1969

I'm under the impression that none of the 1970 Challenger R/T came with any other motor than 440s or Hemis 1971 the 340 and 383 could be ordered in the Challenger R/T but not in 1970 is my understanding As far as the primer me thinks it has been work on since being built by Mopar

1970 Challenger R/T was available
As far as the grey color it sure looks factory, but I could be wrong

A 383 was the standard engine in a 70 Challenger R/T.

In the areas were the hinges are there is a green/grey dip primer. Usually you only see it when you remove/break-away a door hinge or fender (one top of inner fender bolt rail).

In 1970, the 383 4bbl Magnum engine was standard in R/T. 440 and 426 Hemi optional. The 340 was available in Challenger (non R/T), but with A66 package which outfitted the car similar to R/T.

I'm not sure on the 71 models.

I have also seen inside the door jambs towards the front of the car the grey primer that was sprayed on not get covered by body color. Especially on the white cars since there isn't much contrast between the grey and white it got missed a lot. The green primer, as has been said, was brushed on behind the hinges.

Is it under the area where the washer for the striker is?

Any pictures??

Usually you only see it when a original paint flakes off or a blob or paint run breaks loose exposing what's underneath.

That's not the bright-ish green factory primer/sealer.

That's someone's repaint. The striker is painted over and the sticker below the striker.

It looks like there is paint inside the door switch holes. If white paint got in there, the jambs would have been covered too.

During it's life outside the factory, someone painted the jambs.

Maybe they stopped there. Maybe they just intended to stop there. There's 40 years of odd weird out of this world things that can happen to these cars.

Hinges from the same car with original factory primer and paint, looking down on the top side of the hinges.
