2011 Ram 1500 w/Hemi trouble codes(Techs?) - 10/31/14 11:10 PM

OK, have a 2011 Ram w/54K miles. It set a trouble code today, P0016 (Crankshaft position-camshaft positino correlation bank 1 sensor A, and P000B (Exhaust B camshaft position slow response bank 1). Sounds like the beginning of trouble with the variable valve timing feature. Anyone familiar with this? Thanks in advance.

When is the last time you changed the oil? Did you put the proper weight oil in? Dirty oil or the improper weight will do that.

Oil changed every time the "alarm" goes "ding." Factory spec oil every time. Changed oil about 2000 miles ago. Running Castrol GTX 5W-20,(that's been the weapon of choice since day one of ownership).

Sounds like the cam sensor A on bank one may be failing.

Well this ain't good. Yesterday afternoon, after about 30 miles in several trips, check engine light goes out on start-up, engine performance back to normal. If this is anything like the electrical/computer monstrosities at work, they just don't "fix themselves."

Some times a quick hiccup will turn on the check engine light and after a certain amount of start ups with out the problem reoccurring it will turn it out. So they do kind of fix themselves.

My 2003 hemi ram 1500 (88,000 miles) will do that from time to time. It will be hard to start and then run very rough for a few seconds. Then all is good and the check engine light comes on but after a few more starts it goes off.

Have it scanned. 3 consecutive good trips will turn the light out but there will still be a code and freeze frame data stored in memory. They don't really fix themselves, just because the light is out does NOT mean there isn't a problem

There have been some issues with VCT oil control solenoids going bad. There is a screen on the solenoid that will break apart and cause problems. The solenoid is under the intake manifold.

At that age and mileage, it still has really good trade in value. But it will soon be past its prime, and the value will plummet. I'd trade it in now, and thus don't worry about all the electronics going haywire. Theres killer deals to be had on 2014 rams now.
