Power steering valve on steering box

Im working on a 69 RR hook up P/S pump fire up steering wheel goes right ok i look it up on i adjust the valve still no go .I pull the valve take it apart it was stuck rusted but not bad clean it up get the spool moving inside like its supposed to now it turns right on its own our i can get it to stay straight but it feels locked . Should i go look for another valve at the J/Y or grab the whole box with the valve on it

it might be fubared. I would get the front wheels off the ground/eng idling/just barely loosen the 2 bolts/tap it slightly either way & see if you can get it to keep the wheels straight ahead/move st wheel thru it's travel both ways & see if it is now normal (dont stick arm thru st wheel spokes) and from your descrip you may have just done this (& it dont feel right)

Thats what I've been doing to it it has been jacked up the whole time the guy that is painting it took it off and it sat outside for a couple weeks .

if your talking about the valve on top of the steering box, those valves are tough to position properly once they are moved. maybe someone here can guide you though it as i don`t know enough to help.

I was talking to a guy that works at this shop where the car is at and he was working on a 71 challenger when they were taking the car apart they took the valve off with the P/S pump and turned it in as a core . They got another one at the J/Y he just stuck it on there and it worked fine .I will just get another one for it and give it a shot i tried adjusting this thing for a hour today .
