1974 charger no headlights - 10/09/14 05:27 AM

I am trying to finish my sons 74 charger and I have no headlights? the fender mounted turn signals light up so I now it is getting power to the front harness. is there a headlight relay that could be bad or headlight switch? Thanks.

You can buy headlights at many auto parts stores.

the bulbs are all good. tested them in my charger to rule that out

I was kidding with you.
I've had this happen before. Try using a different dimmer switch. The headlight switch doesn't fail very often. The 70 Charger used a headlight relay due to the electric headlight doors. The 74 model may not have a headlight relay though.

(Headlight) Power flows from the HL switch to the dimmer switch/to bulkhead/out to headlights & start with the dimmer switch, which is either on the floor or in the dash. It has (3) terminals: the power in, power out to the low beams and power out to the high beams which lights up the low beam filaments at the same time. www.mymopar.com will have the colors for you. See if you have fire at the (2) bulkhead terminals (1 for low beams/1 for high/low together) & since you have neither I'd say start at the dimmer switch & if it has power in then work downstream (2 "out" dimmer switch terminals to bulkhead). EDIT I ain't familiar with a headlight relay & how it operates

I'd guess high beam switch.

If the bulbs are out check for power and ground at the bulb plugs. If not there go to the bulkhead connector.then to the dimmer and finally the switch.Id say dimmer is either bad or not hooked up.Do you have a service manual? If not get one.Rocky

Check and see if ground wire is on tight out by radiator support bet its the problem. This is wire generally attached to the battery ground ire connection on rad support

you nailed it Paul! I found the loose ground behind the battery, all lights work great. Thank you all for the help.
