I've recently purchased a 66 Satellite and am having a silly issue that is very annoying.

Every time I put gas in the car, it will always splash back out on the quarter panel unless I just barely pull the handle and listen for when the fuel starts to get close to shut it off.

No matter what angle I put the nozzle in, the gas will always splash out and down the quarter...very annoying.

What am I overlooking here? I have a 66 Charger that has NO problems taking fuel

but this Satellite is a struggle every time I have to get gas...and with the 440 and my right foot, I'm stopping quite frequently.

Can anyone offer suggestions on what I'm missing here?

Had a problem like that with my old newport. I found that if you put the nozzle on the lowest setting auto pilot

it always stopped before puking petrol everywhere. Hopefully that is an option with the pumps in your area

Since the Sat's filler is flat on the side of the fender, it is going to do this worse than a car with a sloped filler, or a horizontally mounted filler like a Charger.

The small holes on the tip of the nozzle have to be covered with fuel to shut off the pump. But on your car, the tip of the nozzle is level with the filler hole, so therefore it has no time to stop before it overflows.

I had a crappy old Mustang 2 with the same problem...

Check the tank venting / filler neck return line.
If a solid substance IE: fuel, goes in to fast and there is no place for the air in the empty tank to escape, it will blow back out of the filler neck which is open and has the least resistance, Hope this makes sense

I deal with the same think in my 67. I don't think he's talking about the auto shut-off for when the tank is full not cutting the flow in time. He's talking about just trying to get a dribble of fuel into the tank without it puking back out of the hole. I've verified that my vent tube is clear and put a new gas tank in the car. still does it. tried putting the pump in at every angle possible.... still does it.

My 67 does the same thing. I have to fill it very slowly or it belches back onto the quarter panel. I replaced the vent elbows on the tank with correct molded 90 deg vent hoses and it still does it. I gave up and patiently put gas in it and go about my day.

You guys have totally nailed it. I'm not talking about auto shut off or over filling...just the act of simply putting fuel in her.

Now that I know something isn't wrong, I'll just continue to pump very slowly and listen for the gurgle.

I've put almost 5,000 miles on her this summer so you know I've had hundreds of fuel stops so I've tried every trick/angle I could think of.

I have a '67 and its the same deal. Around here, for SOME reason, they've stopped putting the big rubber cones around the end at newer stations, and it helps alot.

I hold the pump almost upside down, roughly 45 degrees clockwise from upside down. If you look at the contour of the fuel filler stick it in as far as you can following that contour, and then turn it back counter clockwise 45-60 degrees. Am I painting a good picture? Start slow and see how much you can crank the speed up.

With the new pumps I can pump it full speed. The ones with the cones I can usually go 1/3 - 1/2.

Be patient and you'll fill it. Its the design of the car and the new pumps. Everyone with a 66/67 Plymouth has the same problem, its not something wrong with your vent system. I've gotten much better at it over the years.
