Will a 440 H-Pipe factory exhaust system fit a 383? - 09/29/14 06:38 PM

Hello!
Looking at all options for and exhaust system for my 69 383 road runner. Its a toss up between headers and manifolds but Im leaning towards the manifolds since the rest is all stock. I'd really like an H pipe and wonder if the factory style 440 set up would work?

Thanks,
Carl

Check out TTI Exhaust. I put the 2-1/2" manifold back H pipe system on my 383 SuperBee and it fit great out of the box.

The 440 is an RB block so the pipe will be too tall for the 383.

The height won't be as bad as the WIDTH you will end up with once the 2 pipes are stuck together.

A TRUE factory style H pipe is ONE PIECE so they will be wider than the outlet placement on a 383 .

Have an exhaust shop fab-up a system in something you'll get some longevity out of(stainless, or aluminized)...

Then, it's either balance-tube, or X...

Yes a 440 h-pipe will fit a 383 if you do the following. Spring the two pipes together 1" between the flanges. Remove the starter and install the h-pipe. Re-install the starter and you are done.
Here is a link that will explain how to spring the h-pipe together.
