LD4B or Performer

LD4B or Performer - 09/03/14 04:29 AM

Can't seem to make up my mind. LD4B or Performer for my 318? Street, simple cruiser, just want to stomp on it here and there. Forgot cam specs, but it is in the range of a stock 340. 302 heads. Holley 600.

LD4B. EDIT the only thing that would persuade me otherwise is if I had a spreadbore carb (which you dont) & if the LD is a square bore & I am assuming it is

LD4B

I went from a performer to a LD4B on my 318 and it was a night/day Improvment that work a 318 up.

yes it is sqaurebore only,high rise,duel plane,no *coil mount(runners reversed compaired to a LD340) I used a edelbrock 1405 600cfm with stock throttle/kickdown linkage.

I just removed it for a Holley STREET Dominator (small port 318 spredbore intake like a LD4B but low rise/single plane) with a holley 650cfm spredbore double pumper. and picked up a couple MPG.

another night/day change for my 85 stepside whiplash roller cam 5 speed daily driver.

I wont be going back to the eddy carb/LD4B any time soon after getting the holley carb/intake combo.

got the same results going to the holley STREET Dominator on the 440 truck with a edelbrock 1905 q-jet. works rather well for a low rise single pane intake on the street.

I would go with the LD4B if I had it. and look for the street dominator.

Hands down LD4B> The best change in intakes that I made when I was building my car was going from and Performer to an LD4B. This on a 360 and the time slips were a vast improvement. Way more there than when I went from the LD4B to the LD340.

I ran my LD4B on a 360 headed 318 and a 360 engine with good results.

Don,I think you suggested the LD4B to me a few yrs back when I swaped the stock intake on my junk.

So are you saying you like the LD4B over the LD340?

Not at all. I said that my biggest gain with intakes came with the upgrade from the Performer to the LD4B. A much lesser amount of et reduction was achieved when I swapped out the LD4B to the LD340. I was also all set to switch to and RPM and was told by a major engine builder that the gain achieved over the LD340 would be minimal, if any, I then called Edelbrock than talked to a tech that told me the same thing and to spend my money on something more cost effective.

I saw this post earlier and assumed you were choosing between two manifolds you already had. If you are buying a manifold, you might want to look at the Weiand Stealth. They are nearly identical to the LD4B and seem to pop up used more frequently than the LD4B or still can be bought new.
