engine valley hemi head studs? - 07/02/14 03:24 AM

has anyone ever used loctite 290 green wicking sealant on the inner head studs after assembly to ensure a good seal into the intake runner? motor is smoking a bit and while i have it opened up i thought about applying this product to make sure no oil is being sucked into the runner from the studs. thoughts?

Blue, red or green will work, the red and green are going to be a lot harder to remove from the heads if you ever need to work on them I use a regular thread sealer on them

As always, thanks Cab! Trying to get around pulling the heads (in an a-body and not sure this is the issue). With the green being a wicking compound, I was thinking of this as an"extra" insurance step since I have the intake off.

Locktite(SP?) use to offer, maybe they still do, a wicking thread locker. I don't remember the color but the only green Locktite I know of now is the sleeve and bearing retainer product, I wouldn't use that on the studs

According to the loctite site 290 is green in color and is a medium grade thread locker and sealant (says it will seal porosity in welds) so as an insurance factor I think I'm going to give it a try. Like I said not even sure it's the issue, I'm just trying to cover all the possibilities. There was a wet (oil) spot on the intake gasket so a good possibility it was sucking oil in there. Thanks again, dave
