2005 Ram 5.7 2wd problems - 06/30/14 08:23 PM

I need a new vehicle an have a chance to buy a 2005 ram 5.7. I would like any info if you now own or have owned one. The rear end problem has been fixed so that's not an issue. Any input is appreciated

Rust over the rear wheels, driver's seat cushion get pounded out and u end up sitting on the seat frame, nothing glaring besides those two that I can think of

Rust would not be an issue for the OP.
I have a 2007 Ram 1500 2wd reg cab. I'm closing in on 200k miles. Great truck, fair mileage, great brakes, great handling.

I have an 05 Hemi quad cab 4x4. It's needed the following work in 108,000 miles:

Under warranty:
Water pump
Driver's seat upper cushion replaced
Power steering rack/pump/lines (they replaced all of it).

Out of warranty:
Pinion seal ($20, did it myself)
1 EGR valve ($40?)
2 sets of power window switches ($30 apiece)
1 set of brakes ($150)
1 set of tires ($700)
1 driver's seat (may have been due to the warranty repair, I think it was reassembled incorrectly and then broke). ($100 from a junkyard, reused my old cover).
2 sets of plugs ($50)

...that's about it. It has spent it's entire life in the northern midwest, and the rust has really taken off in the last year or so. Holes above the wheelwell, some in the rocker panel, some on the inner door seams, and one hole in the quarter panel area down by the tailpipe. You clearly won't have the rust issues, though!

Thanks for your input. It belongs to a friend AND HE TOLD ME IT GETS 12-13 IN TOWN AND 18-19 ON THE ROAD. THATS NOT WHAT I WANT. Rust is not an issue in Nevada. My 4.7 Durango has a cracked head and I need a low cost replacement with beter gas mileage. I will keep looking. What I have found out is that 4.7's have problems over 125K. I loved that car but the German engineering is not for me. I keep my cars in 2-300K miles. My 440 lasted 250K and my 66 361 had 180K but losing a fan belt towing on a grade cooked that engine.

Mine gets 12-13 mpg in town, and 16-17 freeway only. It gets around 11 mpg towing a smaller enclosed trailer or heavier open trailer, too. The 2wd's should be a little better.
