1972 duster twister history - 06/02/14 10:46 PM

All, I am new to the Abody's. How can you tell if it has the twister package for 1972? I read that all came with buckets and sport mirrors, but it seem that is always not correct. The car I looked at has a bench seat, twister deacals, and a 318.
Any info would be great.

The Twister history is interesting. You can see most all of the factory option details on the link Barry posted. As far as the "Big Picture" the Twister model was created to emulate the looks of a higher performance 340 car in a low budget package.

The most notable differences between the 340 Dusters and the Duster Twisters were:

  • The engine options (Twister was a slant 6 or 318 only)
  • Oddly, the fact that you could order dual hood scoops on a Twister, but could not get them on a 340 Duster.
  • The stripe packages were unique to each model
  • Rallye wheels did not come with trim rings on Twisters while Duster 340's did.
  • The 71 Twisters came standard with the 340 Dusters Shark Tooth Grille, the 72 Twister came with the standard Duster grille.

Thanks guys, the one I am looking at has the shark tooth grill and the rally's without the trim rings. Late build date also.
