holley sixpack outboard fuel bowl ?

holley sixpack outboard fuel bowl ? - 05/19/14 03:34 AM

I have a 71, 4671 outboard carb that has stripped threads for the fuel inlet fitting. I was searching for a replacement bowl and chicago carb has one but it says Call for price $$$$. Blp racing has a fuel bowl for a 4150 double pumper carb for under $20. My question is will the 4150 work ? Or will fuel leak out of the accelerator pump hole ?

the replacements are available..i think he is not happy with the price compared to the standard holley fuel bowl...

even the 3310 rear bowl will not work...

bought a couple end carb bowls 20 yrs ago...still in box...

That repair looks like a brass insert pressed in to repair the float adjuster. My problem is the fuel inlet threads are stripped out where the fuel line fitting mounts on the side.
Worst thing is I just called chicago carb and they said the outboard bowls are not avalable anywhere anymore. I am stuck with either buying a new or used carb. I called holley and I am currently on hold. 40 min wait time estimate....

when you call Holley, leave your number and they call you back. I had the same issue on hold for almost an hour.
They will call you back.

Insert is not pressed, hole is cut to size with an end mill and tapped 1/2 x 32 SAE.About the only thing you can do with the fuel inlet is JB weld in place if you don't ever plan removing it.The other alternative is using the front bowl off a dual inlet 4 barrel and plugging the accelerator pump passages,on the car you'll never see the difference.

would JB weld be an option? It's already fubared beyond repair. I would think that you could epoxy it to where it does not show on the outside

I have an old fuel bowl that I had for many years and it has no bowl vent in the top so I JB welded the 2 accelerator pump holes shut. I am going to try that bowl tomorrow. I tried to call holley twice today and they did not return a call yet. I hope they have either a bowl or a fuel inlet fitting with a longer 7/8-20 thread. There are plenty of good threads deeper in the damaged bowl. If I strike out I will try to JB weld the fitting into the bowl.
Thanks for all of the help.

hi
also there is a over size self tapping fitting avaliable for the fuel bowl inlet , might give one of those a try ?

I did a Google search and came up with sixpackperformance.net. They list an outer for $100. Maybe it's just me being a little too careful-but I would never use JB Weld (or any adhesive) on a fuel system,

It would not be my first choice either but with it being a weld rather than an adhesive I wouldn't be afraid to chance it & iirc JB offers a "marine" type that has been used sucessfully on thermoquad phenolic bowls

The stripped out threads on the needle and seat hole are from using a non Holley brand aftermarket carb kit. If you use a/m kits, the needle and seat are 1 thread off on the thread pitch and you eventually end up with a stripped hole. If you are using one that has a brass jamb nut instead of the screw and skinny nut, you are toast. Only use Holley brand parts for you carbs. An exception may be to get them from QFT, Demon.

Good news.
Holley called me back today and I can get a Bowl Assembly which includes the float and fuel fitting for just under $50. Guess how many I ordered, only thing is they are on backorder for about a month. I the meantime I am going to use the spare doublepumper bowl I have and epoxy the pump passages shut, just so I can run the car long enough to move it to storage.
