Installed mini starter, now 727 leaking trans fluid. - 05/26/08 06:56 PM

Hi all. I installed a new mini starter about a month ago on my 70 RR. About 3 weeks after i noticed a puddle of trans fluid under the car. I lost about a half pint. I didn't do anything else except change the full size starter to a mini. I used the old plate between the trans and new mini starter. Could it be leaking from there? Any other ideas?

I think unrelated. Did you put in the starter after it had been parked for the winter? Probably leaking from being used after sitting for a while. Is there a drip right at the front of the case at the bottom (front pump seal? ) , or more at the pan? If it has sat, I would do a filter/band adj./gasket/fluid anyway.

Check the lines where they attach to the trans. You may have moved them enough to cause a leak.

In original configuration there was a bracket attached to the bottom starter attach stud/nut, the bracket separates and supports the cooler lines in that area. The bracket often gets lost and the lines can rub the case and wear a hole; even a loosely attached bracket can wear a hole in the line.

No bracket on there, IIRC. I'll put her up on the ramps next Saturday and check the lines. Thanks.

Bracket is missing. Anyone know where to get one or have a part number? Also, Rick Ehrenberg makes a starter seal plate for the mini starters that i think I will install. I used the old one from the original starter and there was a definite gap there. Anyone use one? Fit right?
