Small block to 4 speed setup- need parts list - 05/13/14 03:48 AM

Installing a 318 ci into a custom built frame street rod set up. Chopped, channeled, Corvette front & rear suspension with 18" wheels. Question is if you were swap meet shopping for trans, bell housing, pedals, hydraulic cylinder and what-not what would you go after for a complete 4 speed set up behind a 300 hp small block? This is not a budget build but going out and buying everything off the shelf new is not an option. Some new thrown in with used is ok.

I'd like to see pics of the project.

OK, here is the current status. Now, how about some suggestions?

you might have been better off posting in the street rod section. I am putting a 318(I should have built a 360 right?)/4speed in my 47 Desoto. I`ve already fit all the parts in and took it back apart to paint it. its an 833OD/bellhousing/shifter from an early 80`s truck. I moved the master cyl. to the fire wall along with the clutch master cyl. I used the brake and clutch pedal from a ram 50(1988 maybe?) they bolt to the firewall and the master cyls. bolt to them. I modified mine to work with a late 70's dodge truck brake master cyl. and the clutch pedal to use the 3/4" master cyl. from speedway motors. I`m using the pusher type slave cyl. from speedway motors too(you will have to make your own bracket. I think you can use the pedals/master cyls. from an early Dakota too.

well you can use any v-6 hydro bell with a a535/ax15 from a DAK, not very strong though. ax15 has it own 7 bolt specific hydro bell bell for v-6

a NV3500 5 speed from a 5.2/5.9 Dak is much stronger and should hold up fine with that HP/weight ratio. a 94-up 1500 nv3500

I happen to like my hughes roller cam 318/NV4500 5 speed in my 2x 85 D150 stepside. granted it is a granny gear first with a OD 5th gear..but the 235/70/15 tires with a 3.21 gear make the granny gear just right for a fast off the line jump and pretty fast thru the gears for a 4000lbs truck. about like any stock BB 4-speed B-body IMHO.

the spare 88-d100 v-6 hydro bell I have will bolt up the older car 833/833OD car/truck 4 speeds and give you a stock 88-93 hydro clutch system.

be aware some of the hydro bells are NV4500 specific even though they have duel bolt patters...IIRC it is for a 435 4-speed or the NV4500 5 speed only.

used the 88 v-6 fly wheel and clutch for a 93 d250 NV4500 2x 5.9 gas engine
