I want to get rid of the stock steering joint on my car and go to a solid u joint. Has anyone done this and where did you get the joint?

Lots of folks in the race and/or street rod section have done it.

Are they difficult to install? I have heard that you also have to cut the steering shaft?

I want to put one on my 70 Charger RT with power steering.

i used the one for manual steering and didn't have to cut the shaft. but i'm not sure about the power steering one. that damn pin was the hardest thing for me. lol

it is not too difficult to install but i didnt find it easy either. drilling the hole through the steering shaft for the roll pin was a PITA and you have to be careful when cutting the shaft … i did it exactly like the instructions told me to and ended up with a steering shaft which was 1" too short. so better take some measurements BEFORE cutting …

Does this set up still allow for in and out action that the original coupler allows for?

Is it possible to go back to the stock coupler after installing the ujoint or is it a "one way street" when making this swap?
