05 dakota shifting problen - 04/06/14 02:55 AM
Have a 05 dakota with 115,000 miles. Lately while driving the truck has been down shifting eracticly. Doing 65-70 mph on the highway the truck keeps shinfting to a lower gear even on a flat road. Now its even doing it at much lower speeds. I changed the egr valve and it stopped for about a day then started again. Anyone have any ideas what can be wrong? The regular shifting is fine otherwise. Pulled the transmission pan and everything looked good with no grit or metal in the pan. Help

Well we had alot of trouble with the Gov solenoid and pressure sensor. Not to hard to replaace as you have to drop the pan. I always replace both the gov solenoid and press sensor while in there. I would see some that did not set a code. Also make sure your throttle pressure cable is not binding and is adjusted right. I also had a few that would have weird shift patterns that had a bad output shaft sensor. It tells the controller the output shaft speed so it knows where to put the gov press and how much to duty cycle the solenoid. You can have all that checked with a scanner. Ron

545RFE. If you can have it scanned, check the throttle position sensor for voltage fluctuations. This can cause shifting problems.
