Replaced my 318 in my 74 challenger with a 340. Put a Edelbrock manifold and carb. on, but it seems the throttle cable distance is too short, it won't reach using the 318 throttle cable bracket...etc. Is there a special bracket for that?

Not sure on the bracket but the Ed manifold is likely higher and may require a longer cable. I've had good luck with a Lokar cable on my transplant. I measured and ordered accordingly.

There is a special adapter bracket that you are supposed to bolt on to the throttle linkage for Holley and Edelbrock carburetors when using them on a Mopar.

ok! Thanks for the advice guys. Going to look for that adapter!

GTXMATT...Which adapter did you use or should I use?

Likely if you called O'reillys & asked for the Chrysler throttle adapter for eddy carbs they'd easily be able to look it up/order it for you & their turnaround is pretty fast. After you get the adapter on there if you still need more cable length then cut a piece of flat metal & drill a hole at end end to extend it & that worked once for me

You're looking for something like this:

There are other options though http://www.summitracing.com/search/depar...Order=Ascending

You MAY still need a longer throttle cable, but the adapter is usually a necessary first step to avoid having to rig anything up dangerously.

I'll throw in that I've swapped 273 2 barrels out for 440 4 barrels and not needed to change the throttle cable. Your mileage may vary though

Your throttle bracket needs to look like this one for the cable to work.

then you need the edelbrock 1481 adapter.

You may need one of these to make it work with your 318 bracket?

It bolts to your 318 bracket and relocates the mounting position.

wHERE DID YOU GET THAT BRACKET AT?

those clamps will relocate the clamping point of the aluminum ferrule (I've used em & not sure where they come from) but you may also need to extend the little swiveling metal piece on the end of the inner cable to reach the carb horizontle pin. I just cut a piece of metal & drilled 2 holes in it one at end end then bolted it on with mini bolts/nuts

You know I'm not really sure where or when I got them? I know they are a factory part. What they came on? I have no idea? I have had them I suspect since the eighties and probably came on cars I bought and maybe drove for while before I parted out the car. I did that with like 6 challengers during the early 80s. I think they were a factory part for 2-4 barrel conversion?

I relocated some of my parts a couple years ago and took pictures of everything. I have hundreds of pictures that I refer to instead of putting my hand on it. Plus it was fun to rediscover some parts. Anyway...

I went through the same thing on all my cars, 318-340 engine switch outs. When I was 16-17 years old, a local mechanic helped me. I have several brackets that were cut up and rewelded to make it work. Then the throttle pressure lever is a challenge also for the auto transmission.

I'm not even sure if the brackets I've shown would work, just thought I would throw it out there and see if anyone knew any more than that? But I do think they would work for you, do you think so?

It's been many years since I have messed with a 318 throttle bracket and cable so I'm a little rusty there.

70AARCUDA is correct. 318 bracket wouldn't work on mine. I am using a stock 68 340 manifold and eddy carb. You will need the linkage part he refered to also. You can get that through Summit.

I am running the exact same installation on my 73 318 E body. I have an automatic transmission so I had to deal with the transmission throttle lever as well. The height and geometry would not allow any of the stock pieces to fit.
I used the Beauchillon engineering solution to make it all work. It has been in the car for 3,000 miles and other than a loose bolt on the transmission end mount, it has worked flawlessly. I am using my stock accelerator cable.
