I've seen conflicting info. It needs an a half shaft axle for sure. Stub shaft wear? Stub shaft just pulls out? Diff needs to come apart? Who's done one? I'm assuming it's like the right side. Remove half shaft, pull the stub if it's worn also?

Stub shaft wear is very a common issue with these trucks. If you google stub shaft wear fix dodge, there are a couple pages of cheap fixes to prevent this when you put the new axle in.
