problem with the 275 tire is it will rub the rear inner fender sometimes. dont want to cut anything.an inch would work

20mm difference of course...
You can also go to tirerack, and look up the exact brand of tire you have and get section and tread widths of each size to compare them.

Just be advised that unless you are using the same width rim as the chart you section width will be different. Generally, narrower rims increase the section width and wider rims narrow the section width.
If you are running, for example, a 7" rim with those 275's, a 10" rim may give you your clearance to no longer rub. Of course, it may not and unless you can test fit before you buy you may spend money you needn't have.

255/60R15's are approx. 27" tall
