TCI 8 inch 727 converter any good? - 10/09/13 09:46 PM

I just picked up a 5k stall 8 inch TCI converter for my 71 Cuda. Great price. What has the quality been with TCI? Do they lock up good at the big end? Thanks.

I have a TCI 1435 C 150+ 8 inch Torque Converter… I bought it years ago for a race car project that never happened. A friend had purchased it new, and put 15 to 20 partial throttle passes on it before his engine expired due to an oiling system problem. I called the TCI tech line, and was told the following approximate stall speeds:
Strong 383 - 4300 to 4500 RPM
Strong 440 - 4500 to 4800 RPM
All out "B1" Motor - 4900 to 5200 RPM

The current version of this torque converter is the 143502, and has a list price of over $1400...

Is this the same as the one you have?

The old TCI Stuff = total crap incorporated. Then Comp Cams bought them several years back and cleaned things up ALOT. So the answer may depend on when it was built
