alternator wiring question

I have the electronic voltage reg, there is an I and F as I am looking at the back of the alt which wire goes where?

I seen that but which wire goes to which field terminal?? or am I missing something?

They are both field wires so shouldn't make a difference.
I'd put the blue one on the one closest to the battery feed post.

Well there in lies the problem, we tried switching them one nite and burned the wires off, I dont wish to repeat this event.

what year car? Is this a conversion using an alternator that had a mechanical vr?

61 and yes it was converted, I was having low charging, so I switched alts and then was getting high charging so my buddy switched the wires on the back and it burned off the "I" wire. Is there a certain alt that goes with the electronic vr?

Yes!One of those terminals must be going to ground. If you look at that diagram the case is grounded. The blue wire is ignition voltage so if it goes to ground the wire will smoke when you flip the key on.

That would explain why all the magic smoke came out of the wire, so I need the alt with the six square windows on the back of it?

should be a 70 up alternator.
