I really liked some of the 80s-90s Mopar FWD seats. Some are manual, others are not. There are lots of choices, you just need to sit in some...

Ya that era was great. My folks had an 83 dodge charger that had great seats very close to shadow seats. Hmmm now that I think about it the charger seats were close to a body seats. I wonder how they would fit. Going to the yard tomorrow. Thanks for the idea.

Omni/Charger seats are a direct bolt on to E-body seat tracks. I have a set from my old Shelby in my challenger. World of improvement over the 71 seats.

Do they have to be out of a Mopar? There are a lot of nice looking, very comfortable seats in other makes and models. I'd suggest you just go sit in some until you find something you like.

I have a pair of 2002 Dodge Durango buckets. They are manual and recline, but do not fold forward, so they would be better in a standard cab pickup or a race car. These have perfect upholstery, but you can buy different colored upholstery from rockauto.com for cheap and it is easy to install. Best of all I got them from a yard for $65.00 the pair with the tracks complete!

If I were to put modern buckets in anything. I would go with Pontiac G6 buckets. I have one as my daily and they fit awesome. All mechanical with a mechanical lumbar support as well. Great seats and Im sure there is plenty in the bone yards.

Ok,
some of the seats mentioned may be old enough that they are in as rough a shape as the orginals I want to replace.

Any opinions on the procar sportsman, sportsman pro type seats?

These are they. I started to take the car on a road trip, turned to back out of the driveway and the original 71 seat back popped in two, turned out it had a growing stress fracture in the frame that let go finally.

So I pulled these out of storage and shot a can of SEM dye on each seat to get by. Three more payments on the Wrangler and I can start working on the car again, including having these reupholstered to match the yellow black interior I had going on.

As I said, they are a direct bolt-in on e-body seat sliders. The way the sides flare forward a little makes getting in and out a little harder. Could probably lean them back if I wanted to while getting in and out. Or I could loose 15 pounds... nah, probably just start leaning them back. But once you are in, they hold you in place really comfortably.

True it may be hard to find a set in this good of shape, but I would rather reupholster a bolt in set than try to jerry-rig some kind of adapters to put in something from another make, and not have a good idea how they are going to ride as far as height and leg room.

Old thread but I just saw your seats and was wondering what years Omni/charger they are from.

2005 Scion TC seats in my Dart.

I like the way these seats/tracks function.
For entry to the rear seat, they tilt forward, and then the seat tracks release and the whole seat slides forward. Makes for easy entry into the back seat area.
Their also very comfortable and have good support.

Rather than make brackets to fit them, I modified the floor to fit the seats. I know, nothing like doing it the hard way. But this way I didn't have to raise the seats any higher by putting a bracket between the floor and the seat tracks.

They seem to be the same seats that are in my 2011 Scion tC; however, mine seem to be a little bigger and more plush especially on the sides. I'm actually not that big of a fan of them. I tend to get rather uncomfortable in them after about 15-30 minutes. But that could all be based off of body size too (I'm 5'7", 230 lbs so I'm a little on the wide side). I sat in some SRT8 seats at the LA Auto Show and good God I was in heaven.

From a 2000 toyota celica. Welded the chally tracks to the seat frame. Holes for lap belts as you can see
Like 100 bucks each many years ago.
Adjustable seat bottom angle as well

Some of the later 80's VW's came with Recaro front seats.

The 87-90 ones are even better… 91-94 chrysler really cheapened out the P body line (even more than it already was all things considered)

Dodge Daytona or conquest seats are very nice replacements.

Pretty sure the Shelby Charger I took them out of was a 1984 model.

SRT-4 Neon seats are nice high quality racing style bucket seats.

Viper seats are also very popular

Late 90s-early 2000s Dakota seats are comfortable, same as the Durango but fold forward and the passenger one has the slide entry feature. The passenger seat has a buddy seat/arm rest attached to the frame but I believe it can be taken off with no ill effeect, by wrench or by torch if necessary.

You could get Durango covers that are leather with the Mopar/Ram logo on the head rest and the ONLY reason I would consider it is you can get heated seats!

Im partial to sebring convertible seats. They arent recaro or anything special but they do have some nice features:
- seatbelt built into seat
- they tilt forward for back seat access
- power
- more support than factory seat

They do require wiring but its not complicated

Those look good. I wonder how hard it would be to use the 68-69 bucket headrest If they could be used and it was upholstered in the 69 style it would blend in nicely. Future thoughts for my 69

Re: What are some good junkyard bucket seats - 02/23/14 07:42 PM

I thought I would ad what I have found. I have a customer that wanted buckets in his 72 Satellite and I had a set in a parts car that I sold him but I also went to a salvage yard and had picked up a complete bucket seat w/ center arm rest/console for my shop truck and noticed how close in shape the Dakota buckets are to the 70-72 Bucket seats. After I removed the seat covers and foam off the Dakota set frames, I took some original 71 B-body seat foam and it fits over the Dakota seat frames! I also noticed that the seats are actually a low back bucket with a tubular top section welded on top so if you remove the top section off the frame I found that a 1968 B-body seat foam also goes right on. The main thing is that you will have to make your tracks fit the seat frame or modify some type of brackets in order to install them.
