340 4spd duster sunroof?

340 4spd duster sunroof? - 08/04/13 12:45 AM

Been out of the Mopar hobby for awhile, but jumped back in today. Picked up an original 73 340 4spd sunroof Duster. It has the fold down rear seat as well. I believe they were marketed as the "Space Duster". I know its not a Hemi Cuda, but I think the combined options on a 340 4spd car are pretty uncommon. The car is a project and the 340 is MIA. Can anyone shed some light on production numbers for 1973 340 Dusters? Also, any other web sites that might have some info on these cars? Thanks!

Weren't they Feather Duster's too....with aluminum fenders? I remember there was the Hang Ten option from the dealer...for the "Surfers"

Cool find...pics?

That is a great find ! Not sure on numbers for 73, but I have a 74 Duster360 with sunroof, console auto, fold down back seat. Numbers for 74 were something like 3, 000 Duster360s and then break it down from there . . . .

Good luck with it.

There were a little over 15,000 '73 Duster 340's built. Not sure if there are numbers on how many with a sunroof.
I work with a guy who has a '73 Duster 340 sunroof car, F8 green with white stripes, top and buckets.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I found a Dec 2010 issue of Mopar Muscle with a story on a similarly equipped car. In that article they state that only 40, 1973 340 Dusters were built with the sunroof. Can anyone else verify this? If that number is correct, how many could still exist? Would 15-20 be a fair estimate?

Probably more like 8-10.

Is your car red, by chance?

I think the Dodge Dart Sport version was marketed as the "Convertriple":

Feathers and Hang 10 Dart Sports were '76 and maybe '75. No aluminum fenders, just hood and deck lid bracing, and bumper brackets/filler panels.

Not a red one. My car is Lemon Twist yellow with a black bucket seat interior and no console. It also came with a black vinyl half top and is stripe delete. As I mentioned earlier, its a project and needs resto.

There are 5 known 340/4 speeds at another site.

Which would usually mean the amount produced would be much much higher for 340/ 4 speed with sunroof cars.

Thats only 5 people with those actual cars on one website and then are willing to publicly disclose they own one.

I'm pretty sure there are not factory production numbers listed for 340 motor, then trans type, then sunroof. The sunroof was not an individual model or body type, like for instance a convertible BS27 car.

Best production numbers will be 340 with sunroof

Pulled the back seat today and found my broadcast sheet. Its about 80% complete. Just missing the lower left corner. Been searching the net for more info on 340 Duster sunroof cars, but havnt come across any hard production numbers. Found some stats on 70 Chargers with sunroofs, so it would seem these type of numbers were kept somewhere?

Search the rest of the car too, you may find another one or maybe a few that are still intact.

I looked over the top of the glove box, but found nothing. The front seats were changed at some point so that a no go. I got the sheet I mentioned from the rear seat bottom. I was thinking of checking the rear seat back, but with the fold down rear seat option I wasn't sure if there would be anything there. Guess Ill have to check it out.

I never found any concrete figures on 1973 Duster 340-4spd cars with sunroof & fold down rear seats. Since there were slightly over 2000 340/4-spds cars that year 40 cars or so would be a close estimate based on the 2% rule of thumb for rare options. I would say your 15-20 estimate would be close.

Here's a pic of my old car which now resides in Ohio or NY I believe.

Hang 10s were 74 and 75. Feather Duster and dart lite were 75 and 76 I believe,
