torsion adjuster - 07/26/13 07:55 AM

hi guys,
I just took my k member apart and cleaned it all up and painted POR-15 on it.. then I realized that it's a torsion bar adjuster.. the car was pretty rusted and when I took the k member apart the adjuster was not moving and did not think much of it. so the question is does the torsion bar adjuster move..? I am guessing that it does and if it does how much does it move? is it like flopping up and down move or kind of tight but it moves. sorry I am trying to explain it best as possible.. tried posting a picture but my computer was not able to.. will post picture soon

Yes they move and IIRC they move fairly easy.Thats how the bar adjusts.Rocky

Like Rocky said, that arm should literally flop around. Sounds like rust has seized it up.

Spray it down with some good penetrant.Them a few hits with a hammer should get it moving.Ive had one that didnt want to move and thats how I fixed it.Just hope the POR didnt get too far inside.Might take quite a bit of moving to get it to free up.I just bought some WD40 penetrant and it seems to work great. It was new so I figured Id try it.Rocky

Yes, it should rotate, but not be too sloppy. Probably needs a dip in a hot tank at this point. For reference on sloppy control arms and fix watch:

hey jim,
thanks for the video, very informational.. now if i go the lazy way i might cut the plate like you did and hopefully that would make it spring out alittle and weld it back.. what do you think..?
