Hi! I am looking for a 360 engine block for my LRE. I know the cam and heads were unique to the LRE, but is the 360 engine block the standard LA 360? Thanks!!!

Standard block and heads both years, '78 had basically a 340 cam and
police duty valves and springs.
1978 was supposed to get W-2 heads but didn't happen because Holley
couldn't get into gear with the intake manifolds.

it's just an off the shelf block, and it's not stamped with a vin. 
find a block without a vin, and call it original.

Really? My 78 LRE Truck has no VIN stamping on engine or trans.
You're saying this is normal for LRE?

yes same here blank pad on my 78 lil red. this is from lil red express web site.
**ENGINE ID NUMBERS CHECK**
To check if you have the correct engine, check the Engine ID "pad" on the right side of the block just above the oil pan. The "Li'l Red" 360 engine "pad" is blank and has no numbers. If there are numbers in this location, the engine is not correct. The only numbers on the engine block are located on the left side of the block below the cylinder head. The first 2 indicate the year and production plant, (8=1978 W=Windsor Plant), the next 3 numbers indicate the cubic inch displacement (360), the following 4 numbers are the build date, and the last 4 numbers are the engine sequence built that day.

yes that's how the lil reds were built. the vin matches the sticker, and the passenger side framerail below/behind the cab. no vin on the engine or tranny.
