1970 have 2 wires (1 plug), 1971 have 3 wires (1 plug). This was due to the quad headlight system used in 1971. On 1971 models if you had the roadlamps turned on, and you went to turn on your high beams, the roadlamps would shut off, turning back on when you turned off your high beams..... if I recall correctly.

Here is an original 71 3488447 road lamp switch in the upper left corner and an original 70 2947772 road lamp switch that I restore and offer. Also, the relays used are different. A 70 uses a 2889916 relay and the 71 uses a 3513557.
