It should have a vacuum wiper system, might need to look at converting that over. Cool cars though.

Cool, our family car was a 1966 Rambler American 220 from 1967-74. Loved that "big" car (in Europe everybody referred to it as the big car, lol)! The rear axle might be the weak link with a V8 transplant.

There are some really rabid AMC fans out there who can help. IIRC the 220 was a lot like a chevy nova. About a year ago, maybe two, Car Craft had a series of articles about a similar car into which they grafted a 360 AMC motor, ran great as I recall.

If it's the OHV 6, which I think it is, a 258 is basically the same engine, and the 4.0- Jeep six is also related. Fuel injected 6-cylinder 250 hp Rambler could be okay, too.

Electric Wipers were optional those years. Standard equipment was vacuum wipers. This was true well into 1970.

The last year for the flathead was '65, so this should have the "modern" 199 or 232. Sturdy engines, but being pre-'72 engines, you're seriously limited on what gearbox you can stuff behind it. Post-'72 engines use the Torqueflite auto and can easily be converted to 4 or 5 speeds.

But I assume thats all moot as this'll get hot-rodded.

My cousin had a 67 Rambler Rogue. 290 4 barrel 4 spd. Car was a blast. Traded it on a 70 440 6pak RT/SE Challenger. That was a bigger blast.

If the K frame or whatever AMC called it is the same for a 6 or an 8, a 401 should bolt right in.

Let me know if you find a good Rambler site for info. Picked this up a couple of weeks ago. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. '62 rambler American. 196 cid, three on the tree, vacuum wipers.

Start by measuring out the engine compartment for a 440.

Seriously, that car is gorgeous. Congratulations.

Several years back, a friend dropped a built SBC in one of those. On the first full stomp on the gas pedal, he twisted the car bad enough that the doors wouldn't open. Had to slide his 300 lbs. out through the window to get out.

Restomod! I'd want it to run like stink, be every day driveable, look like a stocker but with enough clues to be interesting.

It needs a late 4.0 six plus 5-speed. I can't see why that engine isn't getting more play. Are the electronics that hard?

Frame connectors would be nice.
If the rear is the infamous AMC 20, it needs flanged axle shafts, otherwise a narrowed 8 3/4 would be a good swap.
Disks all the way around.

Slightly larger wheels, like 16s

Decent paint

Custom interior in the old style, like tuck-and-roll, or contrasting cloth panels in vinyl.

There was one very much like this body in a recent issue of Car Craft, typical 350 under the hood. I say dare to be different!

Funny. I've been doing a lot of Rambler gaskets and heater box kits lately. Saw this 34K mile survivor local. $7500. I'd like something like this to drive the wheels off. Maybe some modern wheels and rubber. Maybe a slight window tint so I didn't feel like I was in a fishbowl.

4.0 with a 4.2 crank. I think you wind up at 4.7ish. Stroker inline.

I have looking into some of the issues with a v8 conv.It sounds like buying the conv. mounts from bulltear will be easiest.I'm not clear on trans interchange, from 6 to an 8.And depending on what year engines. If I buy it.It looks to be real clean. And it may end up being a money maker,if needed.I will need to find a grill and headlight surrounds.66' or 67.I need some cheap fun, cars I mean.
