exhaust manifold preference for Turbo?

exhaust manifold preference for Turbo? - 12/02/08 09:59 PM

Any best exhaust manifold to use for my turbo setup for my 318 Cuda? If you guys have been following my Turbosonic build, it's a draw through. Love you guys longtime!!!

Whichever one'll fit easiest is probably best...

Ones from a heavy duty or HP 360-4V would probably be as good as anything, unless you score a (hard-to-find) set of manifolds from an early 340. Those may be slightly better.

The early '66 and down A-body manifolds don't breathe too well.

Not to hijack, but a lot of guys have been going away from draw-thru setups for a reason... but it ain't like you can't change to blow-thru if the car is a BEE-YATCH on cold starts, or has a laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag when you drop the hammer. You'll only have to bolt a carb back on the manifold and then change the plumbing from the compressor.

BTW, if you're set on going draw-thru, remember, it takes some special seals or bearings or something on the compressor side. I don't know if your turbo has the right stuff, but it's something to keep in mind.

I was just wondering if truck manifolds dump out straighter and easier to loop than cars or something like that. I am aware of the draw through draw backs, (pun intended) but I got the whole system including turbo for next to nothing and aren't looking for a wheel stander, just something to offset the terrible HP loss here at altitude. plus, a cool factor when you pop the hood on cruise nights......

Seems shorty headers would be the best. Better flow, and weldable for flanges.

I was told to use manifolds so that more heat would be retained. (yes, that's what they said, I guess turbos like more heat!!)

The big problem w/SB manis can't be fliiped upside down. I think you'd be better of modifing a set on shorty headers, or making a set up yourself. If you use any production mani, you will have to run the exhaust back under the car and up to the turbo.

You'd bet better off making your own manifolds for a turbo setup.
