Engine Dolly/Cart Needed for Big Block - 04/16/13 08:58 PM

Anyone have any recommendations on those low profile engine carts? I have a matching numbers 440 engine that I do not want to put back in my father's 1970 Dodge Coronet R/T, so I would like to store it safe on a cart to move with ease and not take up much room.

I have pre-fab steel ones but I've also made a couple with 2x6 lumber and casters. Fit the pan rail.

I have 3 really slick dolly's that cost 125+ dollars each. They are used in a race car trailer that travels all over the US. So they had to be sturdy and hold expensive hemis.

Wood furniture dollys work fine also.

And then I have some bread dolly's that they haul bread on when it get's delivered to restaurants. They put the plastic trays in this metal frame to roll around buns and bread.

It works really well for next to nothing if you can find some old one's laying around behind restaurants usually out by the dumpster.
I have had this one for a long time and it has held up, the wood on it is seasoned. Takes years to get the wood to this point, well oiled.

Turn the 2X8on the ends and you could easily build a box to set your engine in...for free!

How do you like my homemade squeegee? I made everything years ago before I could afford to buy it.

Nice job, ain't nothing wrong with that other than you got to get some oil or paint on that wood. Your choice!!

I'd go with one of Andy's stands. That's what I have. I'm not that good at carpentry

Threw a piece of cardboard down & it fits on there just fine. $12 at HFT.... Cant beat it.

I use the one from AR Engineering. Its a good quality part. I think I purchased from Mancini. Nothing wrong with a sturdy wood cart though.

Yep I made one similar to this. That's the beauty of the flat pan rail on a big block! Sets right on the wood--all 4 sides.

I am in the process of taking my 360 to be rebuilt and was looking for an easy/quick design for an engine cradle and yours fits the bill. Is there anything other than 2x6, screws, casters and carriage bolts that I need? Looks like the engine oil pan rim sits down nicely into the box. How stable is this design since I have to transport my 360 about two hours away. Thanks Mikeymopar68 at aol dot com Thanks Mike.

Harbor Freight furniture dolly.I put 2 2x4's across it and then 2 4x4's lengthwise as it gets the engine high enough so the deep oil pan clears.
