Help ID small block - 03/19/13 08:15 PM

Im looking at buying a 72 swinger that was given to a kid. He doesnt know anything about the engine. I decoded the vin as being a slant 6 car. I got the intake cast # which is 4095090. Can anyone tell me what this intake is from? It is a spreadbore design and is chrysler blue, which has me thinking its a possible early 70s 340. Any help is appreciated.

Manifold swaps are probably the most common modification out there, best that number will get you is an ID on the intake itself.

There should be a small pad on the block, right under the front of drivers side head (I think drivers side). Take a wire brush to that area and see if you can't make out the stamped block number there. Also may be cast into the driver-side side of the block above the freeze plugs.

Pretty sure on the locations, others will probably confirm. Its been a decade since I looked, so go easy on me guys.

Yes look on the front face of the V8 block on the DR side just under the head gasket junction & the cubic inch displacement will be stamped there very small & on one of the block sides there will be large cast numbers/letters & 3 of those numbers will be the cubic inch displacement

! believe it's a later '70's 360 intake. Sure it's not 4095080?

Check the balancer. If it has a big counterweight or a deep recess around part of the front of the outer ring, it's a 360. If it's flat, it could be a 318. 340 is a longshot.
