My Dad has owned the car since new, It has the electronic dash. An area that says "service reminder" came on. I have dones several searches and have not found an answer. Anyone know what it means? How to make it go away?

Thanks, it is a Mitsubishi 3L. Low mileage, just passed a government emmission test a month ago.

Some of those in that era were reminder lights that tripped on at a designated mileage on the odometer... did not mean that anything was wrong, just time for service.

Does his have the digital message center with the button you press that does a status check of the whole car? Like lights, brake fluid, washer fluid, etc? A few did have a variety of sensors that monitored all kinds of things that the garden variety versions did not.

Those things back them were a pain. They are just a reminder not a check engine lite.Programed to come on at certain milage etc. Some had a reset button some had a battery that had to be changed.Been a long time since Ive worked on one.Google search for reminder lite for the car and it should tell you how to reset it.Rocky

I spent a couple of hours trying different search engines. The info was not to be found ; at least for me. I will try every day to get an answer; just can't spend hours a day.

It was either 89 or 90 where they started making it that in order to reset that lite (message) you had to do it with the scanner. I will try to double check as I cant remember off the top of my head which year it changed. Up to that year most had a little plastic box (about 2" x 2") behind the dash that had to be reset. Usually needed a paper clip to push a tab in the little hole in the box and some also took a new 9 volt battery. It is as was said just a reminder lite to check the emission systems. Ron

Ron I remember one that had a switch you had to flip also.I know on some you had to take the front off the dash to get to.Seems I do remember some that you could use the scanner on.Been probally 20 years since Ive done one.Rocky
