offy 360 and dual quads? what do u think? - 02/15/13 02:06 PM

So I did a little trading and ended up with a pretty cool setup. Swapped a set of old bose 901 home speakers for an offy low rise 360 dual 4bbl setup with 2 holley 450cfm carbs and a scoop with the mechanical buttrflies. But I have a dilemma, its for a b motor... is it worth buying the spacers to run on my 440? Its a street/strip motor, 3k stall, 3.55 gears and 28" tires.I'm hoping it would work ok, I sure do like the sound of dual 4's, let alone the look of em!

It is a cute setup. Will it run better than a good single plane or RPM intake?

If it is tuned right, it will be about the same; otherwise it will look old school and be a few tenths off.

The adapters must cost $100 or so; the same intake for an RB can be had for the same in my experience and just plain look better.

I have run several of the old school dual quad intakes on both sb and bb engines. It is in the tune and how good your heads are that make it work. I have had them on low to higher compression engines.

Good luck with your decision, it is not for everyone.

Multi carbs are cool. Id build a low deck stroker and have fun.

Keep the carbs and peddle the intake. You should be able to get a RB intake for about the same money as a B intake. Maybe someone out there wants to do a swap? It would sure look good on my 383, If I had one for a 440 I'd swap!

yeah i really like the idea of multiple carbs, just happened to come across the intake and couldnt pass it up. well worse comes to worse i have another cool intake to hang on the wall or hold my other carbs, itll look good next to my port-o-sonic and tm6! haha

That intake(single plane) and ones like it work better if you hook the carbs up one to one linkage instead of progresively like the stock factory cars had Been there, several early 300C Hemi motors and a OEM in line low deck cast iron 2x4 intake, done that

Well if I do end up running it, it will be on a 440 +.030, stealth heads, xe274 cam, and about 9.7:1 compression.

Cab would you be using the idle circuits on both carbs? I have an iron single plane OE (58?) dual quad intake going on a 451 B with (2) 4131 AFB's converted to eddy rods/jets. First time dual quad user

You have to use both idle circuits on them, no choice I had one of those intakes on my first stroker motor, 413 crank welded up and offset stroked another 3/8 inch Can you say 454 C.I. in a 383 That was what I was told by the former owner of the motor I never veridied the C.I. It ran 12.94 in a 4400 lb car on the old seven inch slicks with a stock cast iron torqueflyte and converter with a single legger 3.73 rear That one got me hooked permenetly on drag racing BTW, mine didn't have a match set of carbs like yours does , I'm jealous , yours should run better than mine did Try running them hooked up progressiveley and then one to one and see which way you like the best

Google search 383 intake shootout. If memory serves they tested that intake and made less power with it than an old edelbrock dp4b intake with a single carb.

I wouldn't be afraid of that setup. I have a little bit of a problem with the intake testing in that article . Been a while since I read it,but it seemed like they had different carburetors set ups on most of the dual quad intakes. One of the pictures showed mechanics wire for linkage on one of the dual carb deals.
They also never make any mention of running jetting loops for each new setup, but that doesn't mean it wasn't done I guess.
I had real good results with a CH-28 and dual Edelbrock carbs on a mild 440. The cool factor is a big plus too.

You might be right, I seem to remember them saying something about not properly jetting the edelbrock carbs on the dual quad intakes because they were running a single holley on everything else.

I could be wrong. But it also seems like every time a magazine runs an Edelbrock carburetor ,they swap it over to a Holley and use the story that they did not have the required tuning parts for the Edelbrock carburetor
I must be the only guy in the world that ever bought tuning parts for them so I could dial them in when needed. :rolleyes

Yeah you would think a magazine would keep a couple edelbrock tuning kits on hand. Not like they're that expensive or are black magic or something.

Thanks bro, I will continue on with it

The Offy manifolds were running 10.8:1 A/F Might as well had the chokes closed They(Offy) don't advertise too much, so why would their manifolds do well in a "shootout"
