"A" body over center spring

Spring has a short and a long straight portion before the hook. Long end on pedal or stationary rear location, and open end of hook up or down?

73 dart sport 340 4speed

Anyone out there got a 4 speed "A" body ? I need to reinstall the spring and want to make sure I'm puting it back in the right orientation. Not fun getting them in or out.

Should be fairly easy to tell which way it goes , going off my sometimes foggy memory the long end of the springs goes to the peddle , open end down .

Did you try to find a pedal assembly for sale on ebarf ?

tree'd by the guy above me , I see the open end is up , which makes sense ... It was a foggy memory ...
