They are a very good bang for the buck especially the 3rd gen ones. I had a 98 sport coupe, and now have a 2004 R/T.

So far I love it. My wife wants to sell our KIA and buy one more to get rid of the car payment. I plan on doing the complete timing belt change with tensioner and pulley water pump and outer belts.

change the radiator now before it crosses fluids, i sell a ton of them and the only thing that kills them at any mileage is the junk factory plastic rad coming unglued and mixing collant with trans fluid then trans blows. keystone sells them to me for 90.00

Is the radiator deal only on the later ones because I have two first gen's, a 98 & 99.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to just use an external cooler.

My daily driver is an '03 R/T. I bought it new.

I had to put a cam position sensor on it last summer. Other than that, I haven't done a thing to it other than maintenance. It still has the original battery, even.

2000-2005 cars, there is really no room for seperate trans coller, and you will still loose coolant. 2000,01,02, top tank, 2003,04,05 lower tank

Just went thru this with mine. Only had 42K miles on it. I flushed the trans and the block out and so far the trans is still alive .

I have a 2000 Neon with an automatic. What should I be looking for if there is a problem?

Re: Any Neon owners?? - 11/19/08 09:42 PM

My transfer tube broke inside and put ATF in the motor and Coolant in the trans.

Wife called and said car is steaming and trans is now slipping. When I arrived I found the overflow bottle full of ATF and coolant.

It would depend on where or what part of the radiator failed.

Thanks for the reply.I took a look at the car, which it actually is my daughters, and did see some residual fluid leaking around the trans fluid fitting, so I went ahead and ordered a radiator. Thanks guys I hope this just saved me from a major breakdown.

Ive got a 2000 and a 2001 both standard. No major complaints. New wheel bearing on one around a 100 000 miles.

Wife has an 00 with almost 100,000 miles on it. She'd like to buy a new car, I'd buy a new Neon if they still made them, looks like a Civic instead. Too bad. Hers used 1 tie rod end, front brakes, 2 sets of tires, changed the timing belt. You can't complain on that.

My '98 ACR Coupe is still getting me over 35 mpg on the highway and 31 to 32 driving to work 25 miles a day. 130,000 on the clock but I did have a timing belt idler pulley freeze with a catastrofic result. If you're doing a timing belt do all the pulleys...everything that turns in there should be new!

When I traded in my 05, wish I hadn't, I had zero problems with it, but it was a stick car. About 46k miles on it, ran great.

Which years had the head gasket problem?

Re: Any Neon owners?? - 11/20/08 03:59 AM

1st Gen I think probably up to 97 or 98. If it's still on the road most likely the head gasket has been done by now.

Early 1st gen. If it hasn't blown by now, it won't.

Re: Any Neon owners?? - 11/20/08 03:19 PM

I paid kind of alot for my 2005 sxt special edition, but it's only got 33,000 miles on it now and is still under 7/70 warranty, so I hoped it'd be worth it. It only had 28,000 when I bought it back in August, no issues so far and I don't regret the purchase one bit. It's not easy to find one with that low of miles anymore.

I'm more of a gearhead type but over time I've become addicted to the sound system in it. It came from the factory with the full Kicker speaker system and 6 disc cd changer. It just sounds good, the EQ is tuned real well.

Does this one count? Did replace head gasket and "cleaned up" the head before season started, so far no problems Only problems are the ones that have been self inflicted At least we get to beat the snot out of it every Sat.night(during the summer) at the local track. My youngest son is the Owner/driver he has learning disabilities so it gives him a chance to be like every body else on those Sat. nights! Kev
