2010 2.4L question - 10/30/12 08:28 PM

I have an issue with a no start condition on my 2010 Avenger 2.4L. Went over on an Avenger forum, browsing posts for no start. Read a post that the 2.4L engine has a timing chain, not a belt. Can anyone verify this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

Thank you, well that hopefully rules out a broke belt/chain. Chains don't usually break.

If it's the cam sensor you should be able to unplug it then start it. It will take some cranking but it should start if that's the problem. Did you check for codes?

I agree. I had a 2008 Avenger and the 2.4L in these definitely has a timing chain, not a belt. The cam sensor failed on my Dad's 2010 Avenger 2.4 and that's how we got it started and to the dealership. It was only a week old when it happened, too...

Is the cam sensor something that could be changed on the side of the road with a few tool? My 2010 Avenger has 75,000 miles, it might be a good idea to put a spare sensor in the glovebox.
