HERES MY FENDER TAG AND VIN#

HERES MY FENDER TAG AND VIN# - 05/23/08 06:24 AM

I just bought this Sport Satelite, It has 25,200 original miles on it. It really needed a good home. So as Restoration begins, I would appreciate any help.....

I scanned the fender tag for you to see, it reads:

64 1
6 1 7 2
95 8 48 P6N JJ1 B B
RP23 62 3 44 426 317753

the vin is: RP23H8G226767

I have the certicard also - see the scanned picture

I would like to know what the JJ1 color code is, and what does the 'B' stamped thrugh the fender tag means?

And the certicard has the VIN but the original owners name has been removed, and on the bottom, it says HARRISBURG ILL. - does this mean the original selling dealer was in Harrisburg or the original owner lived there?

I will post pictures soon and the build sequence numbers from the engine. I just got the engine/trans out, and the trans has the VIN on it, but the engine does not appear to have a VIN anywhere. The engine has a casting date of 6-9-67.

I plan to try and locate previous owners, and I know the names of at least two.

Brian W Burgess
of Pomona CA, he owned it until may 19th 1988, when it was impounded in Santa Maria CA.

Buicao A Jaime
of Claremont CA, this person may have owned it sometime before 1988. ????

This Super Sweet car really needs to know about its past....Please help if you can.

Many many thanks.

JJ1 = Medium gold metallic (nice!)

The "B" is an inspector's stamp

Go to fender tag decode and the first one is for '68

If you have any other questions, some of the smart guys here will be able to help you.

Sounds like an awesome car. Gold w/black & gold interior.
383 4bb, 4-speed & F70-14 red lines, too!! B'cast sheet??

Looks like the last name is "PEEPLES" & the zip code was peeled also. Can you see a partial first name?
Harrisburg, ILL would be the original owner's address, YAHOO "people search" shows 5 listings for "PEEPLES in Harrisburg, IL"?
Used to be more info available? There should be some other free info sites?

Here's my brother's '68 GTX convertible: "J" paint code - "ember gold metallic".

With 3000 miles on the '88 impound report, I'd guess 125K at this point in time.

I Have been very busy, but I haven't found a broadcast sheet yet. This car did not come to me with the original front seats, so not chance of finding it there, I guess there could be one somewhere else, but I haven't checked.

That's your brothers car? LOVE the Spyder rims. My favorite.

Seems likes he runs different rims/hubcaps on the car at times?

.....And I'm pretty sure the mileage is correct, I got it from the buy who bought it at the auction, and he had it stored with several other cars in a storeage building since 1990. and the lic tag expired in 1991. I also just checked some more numbers, and I found the engine block, manifolds, trans, and rear end are origninal. I also have several avs(?) carbs that were in the trunk to check, because somebody put a holley on it.

I was able to contact the previous owner!
He is about 65 yrs old, lives in MI, He told me he sold it to a kid who got it impounded a week later. He also told me he got the car in 1985, he traded a Ford Maverick with a 302 auto for it, he thought the guy who owned my Satelite was the original owner, he made the trade because he was quite old and could no longer push the clutch easily......so I will keep searching for the original owners(or his relatives) and the original selling dealership.

I am stoked!!! This is much more exciting as I learn more about my cars history.
