72 Charger Fenders

72 Charger Fenders - 05/22/08 08:07 PM

Hello, can someone please tell me what the difference is between 71-72 fenders and 73-74 fenders? Now I know the side marker light is different on the 71 and 72 fenders, but how about the 73-74 fenders compared to the 72s. I was told the bodyline is different, the wheel opening is bigger and the front edge is drilled for chrome on the 73-74 fenders. Can anyone clear this up for me? please

Thanks
Bob

P.S. Does anybody have a good passenger side fender for sale that’s reasonable?

the lower body line doesn't match up is what I am told..... I have never tried it though

I know my old 73 didn't have chrome trim.... but it had rubber filler material between the fender and the bumper.

I have often wondered. The 71-72 WOM's are different from the 73-74 so there may be a difference right there. I actually have a 72 sitting here with no fenders on it, and a 74 fender sitting on it's deck, so I will go look and maybe mock it up in an hour or so. There are 71 fenders right there too to compare the lip, although I am unsure if I have 72 ones at all.

Top fender ,body line runs on to the door on a 71/72. 73/74 are flater looking.

You pretty much have it. 3/4" difference in the body line. 73/4 wheel opening is larger.

If you mearure from the top of the fender to the top on the weel molding, you will find about an inch or more difference. 72 being 9 to 9 1/2 and the 73 at about 8. Also, I don't recall if this was mentioned, but the fender bolt holes do not match to the inner fender. Only a few will work. Blue fender is the 72. Because of this, I will have a 72 fender for sale.

you can mount a 72/71 on to a 73/74 and backwards without problem... body lines will match PERFECTLY... diff are:

-ONE bolt on inner fender
-higher cut on 73/74 opening wheel well
-front splash shield ( the one what bolts with valence ) needing to get the matching splash shield with fender. The area on 73/74 where this shield attachs is larger and "folded, covering lot more than earliers.
-Of cours the sidemarker, but that is just on 71

Sorry my bad. You are correct. I was thing of where the body line meets between the door and the quarter there is 1.75" difference.
