Hand e-brake lever

Hand e-brake lever - 08/06/12 02:08 AM

I am going to have to install a hand style e-brake lever in my GTX. I have enough room between the driver seat and the door sill to install something....appx4" on the flat of the floor and another 3"or so to the door panel. About 7" total from the edge of the seat to the door.
Any ideas as to a particular brand or model?

IIRC, the e-brake handle on my sister's '04 Jeep GC is mounted on the right side of the trans hump as part of the console. Might work OK where you're thinking of locating it. The handle is nice looking, so that's a plus. Don't know about the specific mount arrangement though.

The one in wife's '92 Acura Vigor (only built between '92 and '94, but later RS's and RL's wre similar) is mounted on a flat on the tunnel hump, so that's a possibility, too. Leather (looking) handle and leather boot. Usually black.

Great excuse to go meandering through the JY, IMO.

Just curious - how you going to route the cable to the passenger side?

The Aussie Charger had the hand brake in that location from the factory...well, between the door and door panel, just the other side of the car

I have a spare handle around I can get a pic of tomorrow if you'd like.

I have a Lokar setup like West shows. I am a little concerned about drive shaft clearance, hopefully it will clear with a 1350 slip yoke and 3" shaft.

It should clear fine. You will have to remove the drive shaft to make adjustments though. Id like to have one that has the cable come up into the interior.

FWIW, the lever, ratchet, mount, balance bar, and cables are all on the interior on the Vigor, then the two individual cables pass through the floor to the calipers. Hasn't required any adjusting, but the console is easy to remove - shifter knob, and four screws.

Here it is...pretty simple. The cable just has a small clevis end that connects to the handle (and is anchored to the floor from memory)

The C4 Corvette ( 84-94 ? ) has the E-brake handle on the left hand side between the door and the seat. When you pull it up it applies the brakes but you can push the handle back down so you don't have to climb over it when you get out. to release the brake you pull the handle back up then push the button on the end and let the handle down to release the brake.
