Possibly the elec. ignition box?

When they start to go, the car will run intermittenly, then die out. Finally, it wont start at all.

Could be alot of things but kinda sounds fuel related, may have a section of rubber fuel line coming apart internally blocking fuel flow..Or a partially plugged steel line or the filter in the tank... When it acts up are you able to make it act up with the car out of gear? If so diagnoisis will be easier..When it does it does the engine just shut off or does it start to die while the throttle is open but recover with the throttle closed? If when it acts up does going to wide open throttle cause it to backfire through the carb??

Is this the #1506 carb with the electric choke? If so, the choke on this carb can be fussy in my experience, and requires some fine tuning.

Like a slight to moderate change (AKA surging) or a running down the road then loses power slows & suddenly regains power kinda on & off the gas feeling??? The first one describes a lean surge, the second could be a plugged fuel supply or an ignition problem...

Sorry, that's what I should have typed.

Is the choke hooked up? (i.e. hot 12V power to it not from the ignition coil?)

Sounds like fuel restriction or possibly the fuel pump is sucking in air from somewhere.

I had a cracked 6" fuel hose coming off of the gas tank that caused me grief like yours for several weeks. It didn't leak gas but sucked in air. Replaced it with fuel injection hose and problem was solved.

If the carb and fuel pump are new or in good shape go over your fuel line back to the tank and your fuel sending unit in the tank.

Try to drive it without the gas cap on the filler. Could be a tank venting problem.

the carb is new and i replaced fuel pump thinking that was problem but no change......my duster does one thing that none of my other mopars do,when i let it set for more than a week it wont start(dosent get no gas),just turns over,i have to use starting fluid to get it going then once it startes it will run and start on its own???

Does the car actually die? Will it restart after it dies, or does it have to sit for a bit, before it will restart? Can you put in a fuel pressure gage inbetween the pump and carb, and see what kind of pressure you have before it dies. Then immediately after it dies, run around front, pop the hood, and check it again? This will prove what is right and what is wrong to start with, in your fuel system, but nothing about your electrical. (sorry, hope it points you in the right direction to get started.)

Re: DUSTER PROBLEM ....HELP.... - 11/09/08 09:48 PM

that is a vent to the vapor canister. Take the plug out of it and see what happens, Just don't fill your tank too full or it will run out of that tube.

It almost sounds like a fuel filter to me.

I like the above mentioned idea of a pressure gauge
inline. Most auto parts stores sell a cheapo unit
that splices in the line for under 20 bucks.

check the pick up screen in the tank.
