1957 dodge pickup stock v8 motor mounts with 360 ? - 08/02/12 07:24 AM

I found a pretty cherry 1957 dodge pickup locally. It was factory v8 and auto truck but the motor is gone. I have a 360 , would the stock 315ci poly mounts work with my 360ci ? What kind of trans came in that ?

i think most the stock 50,s mounts sat on a flat plate on the frame---the early hemi/poly motors have virtually the same mounting ears as the LA engines---it should fit fine if you use the old motor mounts and hardware...bob

It could have had a cast iron Powerflyte, two speed, or a cast iron torqueflyte three speed, with no park on either one Look at the pushbuttons or on the dash shifter and see what it shows If it has a N,D,L. and R button it is a two speed powerflyte, if it has D,2,1,N and R it is a torqueflyte Let us know what you find

they had a fairly obsolete 2 speed auto or a robust 3 sp manual shift on the column---if there was a hole in the floor boards it might have had a 4 speed----back to the 3 speed--those morphed into the max wedge 3 speed which was part of the nascar domination--i have an old friend nascar racer that ran the 3 speed behind the 426 hemi into 1967 because the new 833 4 speeds were punking out at bad moments---he said he only needed 3rd gear anyway... then a couple years ago i met a bonneville racer that runs a hemi with the max wedge 3 speed and he said the same thing and that they are becoming collectable too....bob

Went and looked at it today. The body is in amazing shape. Only rust is some pinholes in the floorboard. Original paint! Two tone gold and white hood and the top of the cab. No motor, but the trans and axle , drive shaft are all still in it.
Im thinking i would have to some new style peddle. Those straight push brake and gas are funky. I wonder of i could use the assemly out of my valiant and the mastrr cylinder? Would make one super cool hot rod for sure.

When it comes to hot rodding, all things are possible Time, money, effort and skill being the limiting factors

I did a '54 3/4 ton. I kept the rear drums (2 bleeders, elliptical adjuster cams, nightmare)
The brake pedal ratio had to be changed to run a dual pot master under ths floor which also ended up needing residual pressure valves. I ended up using a 'rusty hope' disc brake kit to update the front straight axle.

As much as I had to change to get that thing acceptable now that it's gone I miss it (sold) I want to do another one with a stroked rb some day.

Go for it it'll be a great truck when you're done!

the best way to do it would to cut out the firewall where the pedal bracket and master cylinder mount---- use the firewall section as a pattern----bolt in the pedal bracket then fabricate brackets to bolt the pedal bracket to the dashboard----another way is to get into SPEEDWAY race car catalog and look at the pedal bracket set they sell---clutch will be hydraulic but it is really a clean looking unit---almost as good as the nascar boys...bob
