trans seal part number?

Trying to find the dodge part number for the input seal (where the torque converter goes into the pump) seal on a 71 727.

Lets just say the guys at our local dodge dealer are not very motivated.

Do you not have an auto parts store local ? Also why don't they just get you the seal for say a 2000 1500 with a 46RE , same seal .

Or are they too stupid to find anything without a VIN ?

Local transmission shop will have it. The 727 has used the same seal for a loooooong time.

Well, yes and no. The original Torqueflite seals were made from silicon rubber, and most were orange. Works OK, but silicone doesn't take the heat and abrasion as well as the later seals used in the 46/47/48REs. They use a different material, Viton usually, which will take a ton of heat and abuse. They are the same size and will interchange, but I would go for the later seal if possible.

There is no local transmission shop either, hence the dilema.

All solved now.

Gave the newer application to the dodge store , as per johnrr. Got the newer seal easy then. They knew the number for that one off the top of thier heads.

I like that the newer seal also had a lip on the metal part so it couldn't be installed wrong, depth wise. Just tap it in, and it's all good.

Started the R and R at 3. Drove it home at 6.

1949 Fargo B1B Front end is 05 crown vic. Rear end is 4 link on a 67 B 8.75 housing.
Motor is 400 B engine. 10:1 with a bit of a cam. Rock on
