Where to buy jets for older carter BBD - 07/16/12 05:38 PM

I have a older style carter 2 barrel BBD carb, model #6150SA, that im looking to buy a range of main jets for. The jets in the pic (if I attached it right) are the older stlye, that have a shank assy attached to the jet, with 4 holes in the bottom, that apear to be a guide for the metering rods. Anyone have these or any ideas where to get them at? All Im finding so far online is the newer style jets in the pic. Right now I have a 120-309S which too rich, thanks in advance for any help!

You'll likely have to locate several cores & see if one of them has a smaller jet(s). I'd think a later one (in the years they were used) would be leaner

Here's an old school idea. Clean the jets, solder them closed and redrill them to what you need. Yeah I know, the flow may not be ideal but it doesn't sound like you're running a race car. Might be worth a try on some extra jets.

The older BBD's are air metered (like the '71 and older Thermoquads) VS the newer "tin top" solid fuel BBD's. Jet and rods don't swap. Newer BBD's are more adjustable on the travel of the metering rods.

IIRC there is some adjustment on the metering rod tree. That would be the Allen head screw. Notate where you start at so you can return.

What are you running this on?

Good idea that will fail, the metering rod will wear the solder away when driving.

I HAVE to ask- why even bother with the BBD in the first place?

That may be a hell of a lot of driving.

You trying this on a slant?

I am wondering if the ones with the plastic bowl vent fitting can swap jets and rods? They are the newer old BBDs. The change over was 73-75 or 76. Then they went to the "tin tops."
