How to store tranny?

I am looking for some advice on how to store a tranny during resto. I have a 727 tranny and it takes up a lot of space because I have it sitting on the pan. Can I "stand it up?" If so, do I need to drain all the fluid?

You can store it standing on the bellhousing but if it is full of fluid still ... why ??? ... then you need to drain it or it will drain itself when you stand it up. Put bag of some sort over the output end and wrap a zip tie, or tape, around it to keep out little critters.
