'69 GTX Vert K Member into a '66 Coronet 500 Vert??? - 06/07/12 04:15 AM

I have a friend that has a fully loaded K member with both the upper A arms, lower control arms upper lower ball joints with disc brake spindles/bearings, steering box, torsion bars, ect.......all still bolted to it laying on the shop floor.

He just put in a new rack/pinion, tubalor A arm coil over racing set up in his car and has graciously given me his old set up. My question is: will his old set up bolt up to my car with no issues? I'm running a BB383 and he has a 440. Pretty sure that doesn't make a difference but I want to just take mine out and bolt the other in

Whatcha think?

Do it , no issues and it gets you the easier and cheaper to buy idler arm.

383 and 440 use the same mounts so there is no difference , you can also bolt a smallblock to that K and your K , mounts are in the same place .

Mike, you already have the answer to your question but I had to reply as I actually used a K frame from a 69 GTX in my 66 vert. I was still driving the car with the 318 and wanted to build the K frame ahead of time as I did with the entire new drive train. The 69 has double mounting point for the ildler arm and sway bar tabs. I wanted both of those features. When I installed the engine/trans, I bolted it to the k frame and lowered the body over. Absolutely no issues. How is the project coming by the way?

Very cool......if it's good enough for your beast it's good enough for my baby

I also want the sway bar application plus this is a complete front end with disc brake conversion, all new bushings, new steering sector, tie rods, ect.........

This will be a late fall project as I am enjoying driving the pee out of her right now!

Master cylinder will need to be changed from single to dual as well as for the disc brakes. But you knew that right? Maybe a proportioning valve too.

Yep, I've already put in a power booster earlier this summer but will pick up a dual master cylinder, proportioning valve and new plumbing when it comes time to bolt up the new member

With the wheel opening of the Dodge being further forward in the fender than the Plymouth, which can be seen in the different splash shields. Did the factory allow for this in the k-frame or where it mounts to the unibody? I know on the rear they used longer spring hangers for the longer Dodge wheelbase.

Edit .... it's an illusion , the torsion bars and the trans crossmember are the same Dodge and Plymouth b body.

I never noticed the wheel opening being in a different location, just that it has a different shape.
Same with longer spring hangers on a Dodge, never noticed them being longer. I thought the 1" was added to the passenger floor pan.

They added to the floorpan on an A body but on a Plymouth B body there is a different front hanger vs. the Dodge.

Thanks John, so the extended splash shield is just for the shape of the opening.
