Can you see all the way through the unit? (where the axle shafts go)

No, I cannot see all the way through it. I can see what appears to be two shiny discs with a circular wear pattern in the centers. DC

those should be the thrust buttons.

Thanks for your help. You know, all these years I've spent knocking around Mopars, I'd never looked into the axle well area of a Sure Grip 8 3/4. DC

If the 489 has its original cone-type Sure-Grip there are no individual thrust buttons...there is a one-piece thrust block.
