Modern stereo - 04/08/12 03:35 AM
I am about complete with the restoration on a 69 A12 six pack bee. I would like a modern stereo in the place of the old missing one. I assumed some company would have made a dash plate for the standard size and shape for a stereo like you would buy at Best Buy. I searched on line and cant find one. I also have a 68 Super Bee and what I did for that one was cut the factory plate to the shape of the stereo. This time I didnt want to do that. I thought of buying a delete plate and cutting it but id rather just buy one for a modern stereo. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

walmart carries a simple box to hold a single din head unit i used to put one in my belvedere i mounted the box under the dash and left the original knob radio in its place just an idea to ponder i just hate the idea of hacking out a radio hole i try to do upgrades in a way they can be easily reversed just a personal preferance

Look in Mopar collectors guide, I think somebody makes a modern radio that looks stock. Here's another thought you could try. I'm putting the same pioneer kp-500 that I had in my car back then, back in it, but with a modern amp and speakers. Will use a cassette iPod adaptor To get good sound without having a bunch of tapes laying around.

Anything related to the stereo is missing to begin with. If I have to I'll get the delete plate and cut it. Just wondering if anyone's ever found a ready made plate?
Thanks

Do you have a rally dash? I know a guy with a 70 Road Runner with rally guages. He did a modern stereo recently and when he pulled the plastic radio plate, there was a wide rectangle hole, factory stock already. He didn't have to cut anything to fit his Alpine CD stereo. Maybe your dash frame is similar?

It is a rally dash. Car didn't come with any radio or plate.

I mean it was missing when I got the car

I just use a small Lepai Tripath amplifier that I have in my glovebox wired into two small Pioneer speakers bolted together up in the standard speaker grille area. It doesn't sound great, but it sounds good enough for an old car. Plus it's cheap and you can't tell anything is non-stock save for the wire hanging from underneath my dash for my music player!

I just reread the original post and I think that I get it. You need a factory appearing plastic radio faceplate for a modern radio?
Jerry had to cut the stock one to fit the hole. Maybe you can buy the faceplate for an AM radio application and do the same thing. There should be new ones available, or try swap meets for a restoreable one.

ebay item number 120889040536 new reproduction am/fm stereo. Comes in 68 or 69 style. I bought one for my 68 GTX. It sounds awsome and looks stock with no mods needed to dash or bezel

I just put in a $40 stereo that weighs next to nothing, fits very well no cd player just sd card, usb and mp3.

Thanks Sinitro. Thats exactly what I will do since it seems there is not a company that is making a radio dash plate for a single din modern stereo. I used a 4x10 since I had a new extra one after the 68 Bee project. They are only sold in pairs.
Thanks

I left the stock radios in as dummies and run the hidden secret radio stuff from Custom Auto Sound on both cars and share the CD player.

This would be perfect. Thanks. It says Road Runner. Will it work for a 69 Super Bee with a Rally dash?
1968 and 1969 roadrunners were all standard dash cars. So this product wouldn't be correct for a 1969 rally dash car.
