96 Dakota, ABS brakes rear?

96 Dakota, ABS brakes rear? - 03/27/12 02:44 AM

I've needed new Rotors for a while on my 96 Dakota sport, thought I'd stop into Napa today and see if I could get some ordered if not in stock. Well I tell them what I have, and he's like "Okay, so does it have ABS brakes on the rear?"

uhh, Might be a dumb question but how do I know? I know it just has old style Drum brakes in the rear.

It most likely has rear wheel abs, but 4 wheel abs was probably optional then.

not sure what year it started, but didn't the Feds mandate RWAL on all trucks somewhere around the mid 90s?

most likely he was asking you if you had the "standard" RWAL brakes, or if you had 4-wheel ABS.

look in your engine bay, by the brake master cylinder. is there a bunch of lines, solenoids, and wires around hte brake lines?

here's what the RWAL stuff looks like on a 98 Dakota. I would imagine a 96 might have something similar.

My 97 Dak has rear ABS, my 92 doesn't. I thought 97 was the first year, but don't know for sure.

My old 1990 Dakota definitely had rear axle ABS only. I bought the truck off the dealer lot new. I "believe" my old 95 Dakota had 4 wheel ABS (it definitely had rear ABS).
